  • Why is a Genetic Algorithm better than all the other scheduling algorithms

    Due to the nature of scheduling complex systems, any deterministic or purely heuristic approach will never be able to search all possible combinations and sequence. The nature of genetic algorithms takes an evolutionary approach to searching for the optimal schedule. This is far more efficient and can find optimal schedules very quickly.

  • Why doesn't every other scheduling sofware use AI/GAs like nMetric?

    Using GAs for simple schedules has been done for years. The trick has been to apply real-world constraints into the evolutionary algorithm. It was complicated enough that nMetric has been granted multiple patents for it's integral solutions to the scheduling problem.

  • How do you know what my "best" schedule is?

    Great question! The real question is, how does nMetric find the best schedule when every company has a different definition of what makes a schedule "best" for them? Every company (and even different divisions in the same company) have different expectations and requirements all revolving around their own constraints and deliverables. GAs approach with with their inherent multi-objective feature - fitness factors.
